Our Mission

  1. We educate beekeepers about problems facing the industry.
  2. We work closely with the University of Minnesota to provide beekeepers with the latest beekeeping research.
  3. We inform the public of the benefits of beekeeping and pollination of crops and the production of honey as a healthful food product at one of the largest Bee and Honey exhibits in the nation. We sell honey in our sales area called "The Beehive". This is the major fundraiser of the organization.
  4. The organization serves as an advisory board for beekeeping issues on the state level.
  5. The organization is a supporter of the American Beekeeping Federation and the National Honey Board, Ag in the Classroom, Mn Grown Dept. of Agriculture.
  6. Minnesota Honey Producers Association currently has a Honey Queen to represent the industry at events. To invite our Honey Queen to your event or to speak in your classroom - see our contact page.

Letter from the President

As this year comes to a close I am sure as I am sitting here writing this, and thinking of the year next to come, we all have our plans in the making. I was wondering what to write about so I had the last issue at hand and I fi nd the last paragraph of Fred Holte's last president's letter.

He talks of consequences of not attending the July 08 meeting. I asked those at that meeting to look to their right and left as they were seated at the meeting and was their neighbor in attendance? I asked why NOT and what they would be missing. I coincidentally didn't remember Fred's letter but as I review it just now as I write this, I now know what they missed and what they could have added to it.

Mr. Fred Holte has given much time to this organization and industry. He deserves many thanks. Please tell Fred the next time you see him, THANKS Mr. Past President and best regard. Also thanks to Russell Hofmann and Jeff Hull for their service on the board. Jeff is now vice president and Russell will remain on the promotion board where both will do a great job for the MHPA.

I have talked to a number of people about committee assignments and have made a few changes based on the size of the committee needs. Thank you to who have served, and if I have missed anyone or you would like to be part of something, please let me know. We on the board will be vigilant on any issue we may need to take care of for the membership of the MHPA. Now it is time to get busy planning for next year.

As always in beekeeping,
Your President,
Darrel Rufer
